K. Muikee
A Century-Old Tea House in Yaowarat That Still Uses a Traditional Charcoal Roasting Method
K. Muikee Tea House is the only tea shop in Bangkok that has preserved the ancient art of roasting tea leaves using charcoal. For nearly 120 years, the family has passed down this meticulous process, carefully controlling the heat with charcoal and mangrove wood to roast the tea for several days, ensuring a rich and distinct aroma.
Before the third-generation successor, Nathaphon Hiransaroj, took over the business, this tea house was founded by his grandfather, who brought his deep-rooted tea knowledge from Guangdong, China—a renowned region for high-quality tea. Combining this expertise with his experience working at a tea shop in Thailand, he developed his own signature roasting method. The result? A uniquely fragrant tea, infused with both the scent of tea leaves and a subtle smokiness, accompanied by a naturally sweet and smooth taste. This expertise has made Shui Xian tea and Tie Guan Yin tea the signature oolong teas of the shop, highly regarded by tea connoisseurs. In fact, they are so well-respected that even Chinese customers order these roasted tea leaves to sell back in China—despite the fact that the tea leaves themselves originate from China in the first place!
Today, K. Muikee Tea House is a hub for premium tea leaves, offering a full range of white tea, green tea, red tea, and black tea, along with an extensive selection of traditional tea brewing accessories.
