Sio Siah Kee Stamps
The First Stamp Shop in Charoenkrung
Once upon a time, the streets near the Central Post Office in Bang Rak were lined with numerous stamp shops. This wasn’t just because letters were the most popular means of communication; stamp collecting was also a favorite hobby among Thais. Back then, the Post and Telegraph Department regularly issued new stamps, not only for mailing purposes but also as commemorative items for significant national events, such as royal ceremonies.
During the height of the stamp craze, Sio Siah Kee Stamps became a go-to destination for collectors, both local and international, thanks to its knack for sourcing rare and intriguing stamps. True to its name, it was the first stamp shop in the Charoenkrung area.
Today, the shop is managed by Chakrapong Samitasin , the third-generation heir. Just as the first generation catered to collectors 80 years ago, the shop continues to serve those searching for rare finds. Sio Siah Kee has also reimagined stamps as art, collaborating with paper artist Pantipa Thanchookiet (also known as Likaybindery).
These creations feature auspicious words and symbols of good fortune, such as lanterns, goldfish, peonies, tigers, and bonsai trees. They come in pre-cut designs ready to frame as home decor or gifts, as well as DIY sets that allow customers to create their own art pieces.
In the era when stamp collecting was at its peak,
this was the first stamp shop in the area that collectors fondly remembered and visited in search of rare items.
