PAK KHLONG TALAT

A Historic Trading Hub Evolving with Time Once a bustling fish market in the era when waterways were the city’s main arteries, Pak Khlong Talat has transformed over time into a vibrant agricultural and floral market.

Whether it’s a wedding, a celebration, or any occasion that calls for flowers, Pak Khlong Talat remains the ultimate destination.

Strategically located along the Chao Phraya River, adjacent to the royal palace, this area has been a commercial hub since the early Rattanakosin era. Before becoming one of the world’s largest flower markets, it was already a thriving marketplace. As canals were dug throughout various reigns, a riverside community flourished, giving rise to a major fish market where merchants would sail in from Tha Chin, Samut Sakhon, and Khlong Bangkok Yai, unloading fresh seafood in a lively exchange.

During the reign of King Rama V, an official decree relocated fresh markets to Wo Lampong (now Hua Lamphong) to prevent unpleasant odors near the palace. This shift transformed the former fish market into a center for agricultural goods and fresh produce. Over time, as boats made way for land-based trade, the market gradually evolved into the renowned floral hub we see today.

Before becoming one of the world’s largest flower markets, it was already a thriving marketplace.
