Guanghua Chinese Newspaper – A Data Visualization Revival
Guanghua was once one of the four major Chinese-language newspapers in Bangkok. However, in 1958, it was shut down by government order under Field Marshal Sarit Thanarat’s administration, accused of spreading leftist ideologies and communist propaganda. Since then, Guanghua ceased all publishing activities.
Now, 66 years later, the third-generation descendant of the family, a Data Visualization designer known as Poontany, has revived Guanghua in a completely new form. No longer a traditional newspaper, this edition transforms complex topics into Data Visualizations, Infographics, and Diagrams, making information more accessible and engaging. Though its name remains in Chinese, this edition is bilingual, published in both Thai and English, bridging past and present through modern storytelling.
