OWN THE STORY

Nanmee

Yaowarat’s legendary stationery shop, home to the Horse Brand—the stationery every Thai student has used.

Nanmee began as a Chinese bookstore on Phadung Dao Road in 1949, founded by Tang Sek Kim. Within a decade, the business expanded into stationery and office supplies, growing into a three-unit shopfront on Charoenkrung Road. By the following decade, Sek Kim took the next bold step—establishing a factory to produce Horse Brand stationery, which would go on to become a household name in Thailand.

The name Nanmee, or “Nan Mei” (南美), meaning ‘Southern Beauty,’ reflects the founder’s vision: to foster the beauty of intellectual growth for generations to come. This mission has kept Nanmee’s products a staple in Thai classrooms for decades—brightly striped pencils, affordable colored pencils, erasers you could always buy again and again, and of course, the iconic Horse ballpoint pens. While designs have evolved with the times, the brand’s commitment remains unchanged: Every pen must write smoothly until the last drop of ink. Every pencil must have a smooth wooden body, deep black graphite, and be easy to sharpen. Every eraser must cleanly erase without smudging. With over 75 years of expertise, Nanmee continues to uphold its reputation for quality and affordability—trusted by students, artists, and professionals alike.

Generations of Thai students have cherished these classic stationery items:

vibrant striped pencils, affordable colored pencils, erasers perfect for frequent use, and the timeless Horse brand pens. Opening a pencil case often reveals these beloved essentials.
